Gnosis Archives

These archives are the store house for our translations of the Enochian Holy Books; being derived from Liber Loagaeth, as well as other prophetic works within and without the Thelemic paradigm.

The ancient Greek mystery religions taught that the vision of a god makes one divine; picked up upon by Hellenistic Jewish mystics and then incorporated into Merkabic Mysticism. Thus, in the Second Temple period, the Jewish mystic would descend (as if into the bowels of the pyramid to reach the night sky) into one of the seven Hekhalot or  heavens to gaze upon God or his enthroned bodily manifestation, the kabod or ‘Glory’, and one was transforme or transfigured (in the same manner that Enoch was transformed into the archangel Metatron)--returning to Earth with a messianic message.  One would then be said to have taken on a glorified body.  This practice was relatively controversial with Sanhedrin authority and the Rabbinical establisment.

"Prophecy is, in truth and reality, an emanation sent forth by Divine Being through the medium of the Active Intellect, in the first instance to man's rational faculty and then to his imaginative faculty."--Maimonides

The Yi Jing, hexagram 50 (The Ritual Vessel): The truly divine does not manifest itself apart from humankind. The supreme revelation of God appears in prophets and holy men. To venerate them is true veneration of God. The will of God, as revealed thru them, should be accepted in humility; this brings inner enlightenment and true understanding of the world, and this leads to great good fortune and success.

Cauldron; firm its auspice we may guess,
realization, progress, and success.

Upset foul pots! thy whore earns mother fee.
Before thou eat set guards about thy table!
Frowns failure if thou be not equitable.
Then shame on thee; thy case is pitiable.
Gold ornaments men's firm sincerity.
And rings of jade attest him honorable!

Ding means great progress and success.

  1. The first line shows the cauldron upside down. But there will be advantage in thus getting rid of what was bad in it.  A concubine profiting through her child.  There will be good luck.

  2. The second line shows the cauldron with its contents.  “My enemy hates me, but can’t touch me.”  There will be good luck.

  3. The third line shows the cauldron with its ears changed.  Progress is stopped.  The fat pheasant meat is not eaten. But rain will come, and motives for regret will vanish.  There will be good luck in the end.

  4. The fourth line shows the cauldron with feet broken; and it contents, designed for the crown’s use, overthrown and spilled.  One will blush for shame.  There will be evil.

  5. The fifth line shows the cauldron with ears of yellow metal.  Firmness and correct behavior will bring advantage.

  6. The sixth line shows the cauldron with jade ears.  There will be great good luck, and any action executed will be advantageous.

Motta’s Commentary:

Certain possible interpretations of this Hexagram are highly secret, and it would be improper to enlarge on them.  We will limit ourselves to refer serious students to Liber 418, the 27th Aethyr, and A.C.’s notes thereto, as the beginning of a line of research that leads (for instance) to the deepest mysteries of the O.T.O.

1 Enoch 14:

A vision thus appeared to me. Behold, in that vision clouds and a mist invited me; agitated stars and flashes of lightning impelled and pressed me forwards, while winds in the vision assisted my flight, accelerating my progress. They elevated me aloft to heaven. I proceeded, until I arrived at a wall built with stones of crystal. A vibrating flame  surrounded it, which began to strike me with terror. Into this vibrating flame I entered; And drew nigh to a spacious habitation built also with stones of crystal. Its walls too, as well as pavement, were formed with stones of crystal, and crystal likewise was the ground. Its roof had the appearance of agitated stars and flashes of lightning; and among them were cherubim of fire in a stormy sky. A flame burned around its walls; and its portal blazed with fire. When I entered into this dwelling, it was hot as fire and cold as ice. No trace of delight or of life was there. Terror overwhelmed me, and a fearful shaking seized me. Violently agitated and trembling, I fell upon my face. In the vision I looked. And behold there was another habitation more spacious than the former, every entrance to which was open before me, erected in the midst of a vibrating flame. So greatly did it excel in all points, in glory, in magnificence, and in magnitude, that it is impossible to describe to you either the splendour or the extent of it. Its floor was on fire; above were lightnings and agitated stars, while its roof exhibited a blazing fire. Attentively I surveyed it, and saw that it contained an exalted throne; The appearance of which was like that of frost; while its circumference resembled the orb of the brilliant sun; and there was the voice of the cherubim. From underneath this mighty throne rivers of flaming fire issued. To look upon it was impossible. One great in glory sat upon it: Whose robe was brighter than the sun, and whiter than snow. No angel was capable of penetrating to view the face of Him, the Glorious and the Effulgent; nor could any mortal behold Him. A fire was flaming around Him. A fire also of great extent continued to rise up before Him; so that not one of those who surrounded Him was capable of approaching Him, among the myriads of myriads who were before Him. To Him holy consultation was needless. Yet did not the sanctified, who were near Him, depart far from Him either by night or by day; nor were they removed from Him. I also was so far advanced, with a veil on my face, and trembling. Then the Lord with his own mouth called me, saying, Approach hither, Enoch, at my holy word. And He raised me up, making me draw near even to the entrance. My eye was directed to the ground.

1 Enoch:71.10-17

And I beheld angels innumerable, thousands of thousands, and myriads and myriads, who surrounded that habitation. Michael, Raphael, Gabriel, Phanuel and the holy angels who were in the heavens above, went in and out of it. Michael, Raphael, and Gabriel went out of that habitation, and holy angels innumerable. With them was the Ancient of days, whose head was white as wool, and pure, and his robe was indescribable. Then I fell upon my face, while all my flesh was dissolved, and my spirit became changed. I cried out with a loud voice, with a powerful spirit, blessing, glorifying, and exalting. And those blessings, which proceeded from my mouth, became acceptable in the presence of the Ancient of days. The Ancient of days came with Michael and Gabriel, Raphael and Phanuel, with thousands of thousands, and myriads and myriads, which could not be numbered. Then that angel came to me, and with his voice saluted me, saying, You are the Son of man, who art born for righteousness, and righteousness has rested upon you.

2 Enoch:22.1-9

ON the tenth Heaven, Aravoth, I saw the appearance of the Lord’s face, like iron made to glow in fire, and brought out, emitting sparks, and it burns. Thus I saw the Lord’s face, but the Lord’s face is ineffable, marvellous and very awful, and very, very terrible. And who am I to tell of the Lord’s unspeakable being, and of his very wonderful face? And I cannot tell the quantity of his many instructions, and various voices, the Lord’s throne very great and not made with hands, nor the quantity of those standing round him, troops of cherubim and seraphim, nor their incessant singing, nor his immutable beauty, and who shall tell of the ineffable greatness of his glory? And I fell prone and bowed down to the Lord, and the Lord with his lips said to me: ‘Have courage, Enoch, do not fear, arise and stand before my face into eternity.’ And the archistratege Michael lifted me up, and led me to before the Lord’s face. And the Lord said to his servants tempting them: ‘Let Enoch stand before my face into eternity,’ and the glorious ones bowed down to the Lord, and said: ‘Let Enoch go according to Thy word.’

8 And the Lord said to Michael: ‘Go and take Enoch from out his earthly garments, and anoint him with my sweet ointment, and put him into the garments of My glory.' And Michael did thus, as the Lord told him. He anointed me, and dressed me, and the appearance of that ointment is more than the great light, and his ointment is like sweet dew, and its smell mild, shining like the sun’s ray, and I looked at myself, and was like one of his glorious ones.

Liber Loagoeth Interpretations

The prophet Enoch's experiences in the higher realms, called "the most important book ever given to man by God" and said to hold all the secrets of heaven and earth and the physical and spiritual realms.  The Lord having summoned one of his archangels, tells him to give to Enoch a pen to write down all the events in the heavens and upon the Earth.  Enoch is said to have written 360 books, as if indicating the full cycle of time...a stupendous prophecy!  And the Lord instructs him to give these to the sons on the Earth; referencing the Sons of God (humanity itself!).  As well, the Lord promised to send two of his angels to Earth to preserve these books through the Flood that was to come.  The prophecy that remains is that in the future these books will be again revealed unto mankind by the guardians of the Earth.

Prophecy of the Starry Gnosis

Ezekiel:I

Now it came to pass in the thirtieth year, in the fourth month, on the fifth day of the month, that I was in the midst of the captivity by the river of Chobar; and the heavens were opened, and I saw visions of God. On the fifth day of the month; this was the fifth year of the captivity of king Joakim. And the word of the Lord came to Ezekiel the priest, the son of Buzi, in the land of the Chaldeans, by the river of Chobar; and the hand of the Lord was upon me. And I looked, and, behold, a sweeping wind came from the north, and a great cloud on it, and there was brightness round about it, and gleaming fire, and in the midst of it as it were the appearance of amber in the midst of the fire, and brightness in it. And in the midst as it were the likeness of four living creatures. And this was their appearance; the likeness of a man was upon them. And each one had four faces, and each one had four wings. And their legs were straight; and their feet were winged, and there were sparks, like gleaming brass, and their wings were light. And the hand of a man was under their wings on their four sides. And the faces of them four turned not when they went; they went everyone straight forward. And the likeness of their faces was the face of a man, and the face of a lion on the right of the four; and the face of a calf on the left of the four; and the face of an eagle to the four. And the four had their wings spread out above; each one had two joined to one another, and two covered their bodies. And each one went straight forward: wherever the spirit was going they went, and turned not back. And in the midst of the living creatures there was an appearance as of burning coals of fire, as an appearance of lamps turning among the living creatures; and the brightness of fire, and out of the fire came forth lightning. And I looked, and, behold, the four had each one wheel on the ground near the living creatures. And the appearance of the wheels was as the appearance of beryl: and the four had one likeness: and their work was as it were a wheel in a wheel. They went on their four sides: they turned not as they went; neither did their backs turn: and they were high: and I beheld them, and the backs of them four were full of eyes round about. And when the living creatures went, the wheels went by them: and when the living creatures lifted themselves off the earth, the wheels were lifted off. Wherever the cloud happened to be, there was the spirit ready to go: the wheels went and were lifted up with them; because the spirit of life was in the wheels. When those went, the wheels went; and when those stood, the wheels stood; and when those lifted themselves off the earth, they were lifted off with them: for the spirit of life was in the wheels. And the likeness over the heads of the living creatures was as a firmament, as the appearance of crystal, spread out over their wings above. And their wings were spread out under the firmament, reaching one to the other; two wings to each, covering their bodies. And I heard the sound of their wings when they went, as the sound of much water: and when they stood, their wings were let down. And lo! a voice from above the firmament that was over their head, there was as the appearance of a sapphire stone, and the likeness of a throne upon it: and upon the likeness of the throne was the likeness as an appearance of a man above. And I saw as it were the resemblance of amber from the appearance of the loins and upwards, and from the appearance of the loins and under I saw an appearance of fire, and the brightness thereof round about. As the appearance of the rainbow when it is in the cloud in days of rain, so was the form of brightness round about.

In this article, we’ve calculated the sunrises to the Vernal Equinox of 2597ev where, for the

first time, the Sun will rise in Aquarius.  This is the actual date of the start of Age of

Aquarius.  And in the Enochian diaries of John Dee, Gabriel declares in the year 2534ev “the

fruit of Paradise shall appear, that nothing may be on earth without comfort.  For, lo, the first shall be

last, and it shall be a Kingdom without corruption…For, his Kingdom shall have an end

Gnostic Epistles

Gnosticism is far richer and more diverse from the ascetic Essenism more attributable to the Dead Sea Scrolls of Qumram than to the Nag Hammadi texts.  Though Christianity would take much from the Gnostic movement; the Gnostic movement, as a movement itself only but briefly could identify with the Christian tradition that was simultaneously emerging out of this larger, more complex culture.  The classical Gnostics recignized three orders of humanity: the Hylics or 'materialists' (only concerned with mundane matters), the Psychics, who wee without spiritual insight and blindly followed exoteric religion, and the Pnuematics or 'spiritualists' who were interested in the ancient mysteries.

The Contender writing to the Perfect

The dialogue can be said to represent the rendering of an internal conversation between the Savior or Augoeides

the soul).

Valentian Gnosticism

The Valentinian myth presents the cosmos as material with matter being some kind of chaotic outflow of divine passion or effulgence; being formed by the 'Savior' and Sophia; using the demiurge as a tool by which the cosmos is brought into order. The difference between this and the Sethian mythos that tended to view the cosmos as a chaos that can deceive or trap the soul that is without Gnosis.  But overall, the Valentinian and Sethian sects were essentially Platonic as well as Qabalistic after the manner of the Greek mystery schools.  They looked upon the cosmos as a material reflection of the Pleroma as the ancient Egyptians layed their pyramids arranged on land to correspond with the stars of the night sky; connecting heaven and Earth.

The Tripartite Tractate says that divine will of the Father, the Logos involutes to create the known Universe.  The fall of Sophia; an aeon or goddess is not a fall from grace, but a necessary phase in the development of the manifested Universe that also represents the only way that the infinite can become more than it already is.  It spreads out its effulgence and collects it back again; not unlike the Hindu myth of Brahma and Vishnu on the lotus.  The creation of matter is not 'the fall', but the
passion of Sophia and a necessary phase in the process by which the divine comes to know itself; manifestation being the cast reflection of itself.

This is reflected, though misunderstood in the apocalyptic mythos of the Hebrew sects of the period; though 'purged' by the Enochian mythos of the Renaissance and the Thelemic mythos of the Victorian eras (cf. Babalon & the Beast).  Also, akin to Thelemic doctrine, the Valentinians sought contact with the Holy Guardian Angel (Augoeiades) in the Bridal-Chamber (cf. the Coptic Gospel of Philip) The Valentinian practise of the Bridal Chamber was a ritualistic sacrament in which sexual union was seen as a magickal act in commenoration of the paired syzygies that constitute the Pleroma.

Sethian Gnosticism

Sethianism was originally a non-Christian baptismal sect that considered itself possessing the primordial wisdom revealed to the still human Adam and Seth.  Having arisen out of the Messianic tradition that was popular in the pre-Christian era,  they also expected a messianic visitation from Seth.  During the later first to second century, ev. Sethianism succumb to the superstitious, anthropomorphic movement and  became Christianized.  Seth and Adam are transformed from human to supernatural beings.  These are the principal texts of this temporary aversion:

Epistle on the Apocalypse of Adam

Adam and his son Seth in Gnosticism are derived from the Book of Genesis.  Seth was the third son of Adam and Eve (after first birthing Cain and Abel).  Seth was said (by the Gnostics) unlike his brothers, in that he was said to  possess the "spirit" or "seed" from above.  The Apocalypse of Adam is an early text transitional text between the Jewish Apocalyptic movement and its development into Gnosticism.  Seth (along with Adam) came to be a dual expression of the heavenly archetypal man (Anthropos); the Adam-Kadmon of the Jewish Qabalists.

Epistle on fhe Apocryphon of John

This early Sethian text describes the sequence of Aeons; being but a secondarily Christianised work.  It presents a mythological Gnosticism, based on the early chapters of Genesis and as a revelation given by the resurrected Christ to John, the son of Zebedee.  The cosmogony is shown in the following schematic:

The Three Steles of Seth

The Trimorphic Protennoia

In the later second century, ev. Sethianism separated from Christianity and brought forth its own doctrine that was worked into an orthodox and codified system.  Seth returns to his original status as the Archetypal Man (the Adam-Kadmon of the Qabalists and even Jesus, the Christ before he was converted into a supernatural being by the Christians) Its main document is:

The Hypostasis of the Archons

Epistle on the Thunder, Perfect Mind

Epistle on the Gospel of the Egyptians

The first emanation of the Absolute is a female principle, variously referred to as Thought, Providence, Fore-thought or Foreknowledge (in Greek, all these words have female gender), and "Barbelo", who in Thelema is Babalon (cf. A Token of Babalon).  Gnostic cosmology presents the female creator principle in a dual role; the higher principle being Barbelo and the lower principle being Sophia being Nuit in Thelema; the Universe herself.

As in the Apocryphon of John, Barbelo is the first emanation, the cosmogony changes in The Gospel of the Egyptians.  Now there are three emanations from the Absolute; the Father, the Mother (identified with Barbelo), and the Son (or Magickal Childe in Thelema), each of which is an octet (eight-fold).

What brought forth this separation of the Sethians from Christianity was an increasing attraction to the Platonic School (a school that abhorred the Gnostics) with its qabalistic bend.  The principal transformational documents include:

Hermetic Gnosticism

Epistle on the Discource on the 8th & 9th

The Discourse on the Eighth and Ninth is an account of a Hermetic initiation. The initiate, having already attained

to the wisdom of the first seven spheres (the seven sacred planets) is instructed and then initiated by Hermes

Trismegistus into the mysteries of the 8th sphere, that of the fixed stars and finally into the 9th, the sphere of God.

The initiate first learns intellectually and purifies him or herself.  Then he or she receives a spiritual initiation from

Hermes Trismegistus, an actual mystic experience that confirms the intellectual knowledge, encompasses it and then

transcends it. Hermes then commands the initiate to write this teaching in a book in hieroglyphic characters in a

          temple in Egypt.
